Fans and their films

I'm quite glad to see that Serenity is hovering at 77% on Rotten Tomatoes. The fact that Whedon gets the chance to make this film at all is simply an amazing testament to the fans it's created. Remember, though, Browncoats, that Universal has said they are up for making more movies provided this one generates enough profit. Vote with your wallets and see it twice.

Mirrormask isn't faring as well on the reviews, but if you're lucky enough to be one of the cities in it's limited release, I'd see it anyway. It's not like a Gaiman/Henson mashup was going to garner massive mainstream response - but seeing this movie adds more dollars that studios would be willing to spend on expiremental artsy projects with muppets. How can that be a bad thing?

I have to say, reviews or not, the gallery of shots from Mirrormask on Wired blew me away. They really do look like Dave McKean pieces. Still no comment on whether it will follow in the footsteps of other past Henson productions, but if the whole movie looks like that, it'll be worth at least seeing in the theater (and more likely, picking up on DVD).

Should one see Firefly before seeing Serenity?

I'm (hopefully) going to see Mirrormask this weekend. I've been a huge fan of Gaiman's writing (I got some books signed by him last week :-D) and McKean's art for going on... More than 10 years now.

I would say one should see FireFly regardless of Serenity :)

But from what I've read of previews, knowledge of the TV show isn't required. Whedon has basically recapped some of his premiere with some more closure than the TV show allowed (I guess).
