10 Minutes Into The Skyfire Demo...

Skyfire is this nifty new browser for Windows mobile which honestly feels like it is fueled by some kind of black magic. I just got the text message to download the beta version a bit ago and have so far managed to browse YouTube, GMail and Google Maps without much problem at all. I even tested some of the Flex apps I've deployed and while slow and a bit clunky with the screen size - were functional.

The zooming and some of the other user interface could be better implemented, but having Flash 9 functional on a Windows Mobile phone is pretty damn impressive, to say the least. iPhone, shmiphone...

Funny you should mention, since I just switched my PocketPC over to a new cell phone, which includes Nokia's Webkit-based browser.

A serious step above Pocket IE, that's for damn sure. Very impressive. And lucky of Apple to have been first out of the gate with this kind of experience.

Both WebKit and Opera really blow doors off PIE, although I did still use PIE for a lot of my day to day browsing as, while basic, was pretty fast displaying the mobile versions of interfaces.

the funny thing is that I just got my iPod touch to talk on the Internet via my cellphone to avoid pocket IE. Cheaper than an iPhone and I don't have to change carriers :)
